Graduation Requirement Policy (Competency Determination) Updated for New State Guidance

Curriculum

What happened

The district revised Policy File IKF - Competency Determination Graduation Requirement to align with new Massachusetts state guidance, moving forward to a second reading; the updated policy requires one less history class than the prior policy and must be finalized by December 1.

Why it matters to families

This is a consequential curriculum/graduation-requirement change affecting what courses students must complete to graduate, driven by mandatory state guidance with a firm compliance deadline.

The evidence

Robin Millen explained the revisions being made to Policy File IKF which are due to new guidance from the State of Massachusetts as to what the policy should include. The updated policy is written very closely to the model policy that the state provided to the high schools in the Commonwealth.
