District news
Forecast shows growing operating gaps

What happened
The county’s budget review projects unrestricted spending above revenue by $12.4 million in 2026–27, $29.7 million in 2027–28 and $42.7 million in 2028–29.
Why it matters to families
The gaps could put pressure on future spending. These are forecasts, not adopted cuts, and positive balances and sufficient cash are still projected.
The evidence
The county approved the budget but warned against adding ongoing costs without offsets. The two later years assume no LCFF cost-of-living increases.
