Board adopts a budget nearly $1 million in the red as enrollment falls
What happened
The 2026-27 budget adopted August 24, 2026 plans $19.56 million in revenue and $20.52 million in spending, a $963,312 gap paid from savings. Enrollment fell from 1,524 in October 2025 to 1,492 in October 2026, and state aid follows attendance. Leaders told the board the reserve may fall below the 90 days of spending that TEA expects, and that cutting staff may be needed.
Why it matters to families
This is the second deficit year in a row: the general fund lost $925,251 in 2024-25. About 80% of spending is staff, so ongoing gaps usually mean fewer positions.
The evidence
The adopted budget posting lists revenue, spending and the $963,312 difference. August 10, 2026 video has the 87.5-day reserve estimate and the staffing discussion. October 12, 2026 video gives the enrollment comparison. The 2025 annual financial report shows the $925,251 general-fund decrease.
