District news
Voters reject first 2026-27 budget, then pass a revised $275.5 million budget
What happened
Voters turned down the $276.2 million budget (1.99% tax levy increase) on May 19, 2026. The board then cut it to $275,542,563 with a 1.5% levy increase. On June 16 the revised budget passed, 1,161 to 1,075.
Why it matters to families
A second 'no' would have forced a contingency budget. The district said that would mean about $2.8 million in cuts, no sports teams, 5% fewer staff, and no summer school, after-school or gifted programs. The close vote shows the community is split on taxes.
The evidence
The board certified the 1,161 to 1,075 result in the June 16 recording. District posts say the revised plan saved $699,293 and the first vote failed on May 19.
