Phones banned all school day, Pre-K to Grade 12

Day-to-day

What happened

On August 5, 2026, the board adopted a revised cell phone policy. Students may not use phones or other connected devices from the first bell to dismissal. Devices must be off and put away, and smart watches may be used only to tell time.

Why it matters to families

This changes every student's school day. Students who break the rule can lose their device, and repeat or serious cases can lead to suspension.

The evidence

Policy JICJ, revised August 5, 2026, sets a bell-to-bell ban for Pre-K through Grade 12. It allows quiet phone use on buses but no photos or recording, and keeps access to needed technology for students with IEPs, 504 plans or health plans. The August 5 minutes record its adoption.
