2027 budget advertises a 34% higher property tax levy
What happened
The 2027 budget the board adopted on October 13, 2026 advertises total property tax levies of $7,386,829, up from $5,504,011 now. Most of the increase is in the debt service fund, which repays district borrowing: its levy would rise 57%, from $2,890,676 to $4,547,037. These are maximum advertised figures, and the superintendent said the state usually lowers them before the final budget order.
Why it matters to families
Property owners in Boone Township pay these levies. The district borrowed about $14.1 million in 2025 bonds for the new fieldhouse and other projects, and the debt service fund is where that borrowing is repaid. The final 2027 amounts will not be set until the state issues its budget order, usually around the end of the year.
The evidence
The district's 2027 Budget Form 3 (Notice to Taxpayers) lists each fund's proposed levy and current levy. The October 13, 2026 meeting recording includes the vote adopting Resolution 26-08 and the superintendent's remarks about state review.
