How is Hebron paying for its new fieldhouse?

A $12.5 million fieldhouse funded by about $14.1 million in property-tax-backed bonds, due to open in mid-2027

MSD of Boone Township runs three schools in Hebron, Porter County, with about 1,070 students. In November 2025 the board approved borrowing about $14.1 million through its building corporation and awarded contracts for a 28,218-square-foot fieldhouse at the high school. The 2027 budget advertises a 57% higher debt service levy, the fund that repays such borrowing.

$12,548,896.78 project

Total cost given in November 2025, covering construction plus an energy performance contract (solar, HVAC, roofing) with Veregy.

$14,120,000 in bonds

Approved November 11, 2025 as Boone Township Schools Building Corporation first mortgage bonds, series 2025.

Debt levy up 57% (advertised)

2027 debt service levy of $4,547,037, compared with $2,890,676 now; total levies $7,386,829 compared with $5,504,011. The state usually lowers the advertised figures.

Federal energy payment

$2 million received from the IRS in December 2025 under the Inflation Reduction Act, with about $500,000 still owed.

The advertised levy is a ceiling, not the final tax bill, and the district says the state usually lowers it. We did not see the bond schedule or the full levy history, so we cannot say how much of the increase comes from the fieldhouse bonds.
