Board adopts first artificial intelligence policy (8636)

Day-to-day

What happened

On July 28, 2026 the board took its second reading of Policy 8636 on artificial intelligence and voted on it with its general resolutions. District staff said the policy treats AI as a tool to teach responsibly, not something to ban, and covers both planned and accidental use, with ways to correct misuse.

Why it matters to families

It sets the rules for how students, teachers and staff may use AI tools such as chatbots in school work. Leaders said it is required by state law and will be updated as AI changes.

The evidence

The recording shows the superintendent introducing the second reading, the board president saying the board would vote on the AI policy that night, and a batch motion on resolutions that carried. The first reading was July 1. The policy text itself was not in the collected corpus.
