First year of state phone ban: 8 students disciplined out of 10,119
What happened
The district's first Distraction-Free Schools report (Policy 5695) says only 8 students broke the school-day ban on phones and other internet devices in 2025-26. Each got a warning, a call home and had the device taken. None got detention.
Why it matters to families
It shows how strictly the new state phone ban is enforced. The district notes eight cases is too few to judge fairness across student groups, though some groups were over-represented, such as students with disabilities (37.5% of cases vs 20.7% of students).
The evidence
The district's published report lists 8 violations, 8 warnings, 8 confiscations, 8 parent notifications and 0 detentions, and checks for differences by group. It found none statistically significant. The Code of Conduct also bans unauthorized device use.
