District news
Dec. 17 vote on $140 million school building project
What happened
The district plans a public vote on December 17, 2026 for a building project of up to $140.3 million at every school. It pays for new roofs, heating and cooling work, classroom updates, playgrounds, athletic fields and a new STEM and career hub at the high school. The district says the plan is paid over 15 years and raises school taxes about 1% a year, about $22.58 for a $200,000 home with the Basic STAR exemption.
Why it matters to families
If voters say yes, nearly every school building gets major work. The vote also sets how much more local families pay in taxes for the next 15 years.
The evidence
The Oct. 13, 2026 board presentation lists a proposed referendum of $140.4 million, a Dec. 17 vote and the 15-year financing. The vote notice text caps the cost at $140.3 million and the borrowing at $127.8 million. The board's Oct. 19 agenda lists the environmental review and the vote notice for approval. The district Voting page also lists a December 17, 2026 referendum.
