Who runs North Valley Academy, and how is it paid for?
A small public charter school run by an appointed nonprofit board
North Valley Academy is a free public charter school in Gooding, Idaho, with an American-heritage focus. It is run by North Valley Academy, Inc., a nonprofit whose five-member Board of Directors is not elected by voters. The Idaho Public Charter School Commission authorizes the charter and can renew or close it. Like other Idaho charters, it is paid mainly by the state based on student attendance, plus federal programs such as school lunch; it cannot ask local voters for a property tax levy.
Five appointed directors
MaryBelle Anderson (chair), Sherry Funkhouser (vice chair), Jeff Bard (treasurer), Steve Faulkner and Theresa Patterson. A new member was introduced in June 2026.

The board meets the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at 906 Main St, Gooding.
Bills approved monthly
The board approves a list of every check each month and posts it online.
