District limits immigration-enforcement access and information sharing

Day-to-day

What happened

The board adopted rules that generally bar staff from sharing immigration-related information or allowing immigration officers into nonpublic school areas without a legal exception.

Why it matters to families

Families now have a written district process for immigration-enforcement requests involving students, records, buses, and school property. The policy also requires notices about family rights and support when a parent is detained or deported.

The evidence

Policy 1445 directs staff responses to information and access requests, prohibits immigration-status lists, requires the superintendent to report qualifying enforcement requests to the board, protects students from discrimination based on immigration status, and provides for parent notifications and emergency-contact outreach.
