Soccer field expansion blocked by wetland rules for now

Facilities

What happened

The superintendent reported that the soccer field cannot be expanded past the playground fence because the land is a wetland and permits and fees would cost too much. He planned to ask the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to visit about possibly changing the wetland designation. By August 12, 2026, a meeting with the DEP was set to discuss expansion options.

Why it matters to families

The soccer field upgrade that families and the committee have discussed cannot go forward as planned unless the state agrees to change the wetland status or the school finds a smaller plan.
