District reverses course and opts into state safety and mental health money

Financial

What happened

In November 2025 the board voted not to take state Section 31aa school safety and mental health money, citing rules about investigations and legal protections. In June 2026 it approved a revised opt-in. In December the superintendent estimated the money at about $104,000.

Why it matters to families

This money can pay for student mental health and safety supports. Taking it also brings state reporting and investigation rules the board had worried about.

The evidence

June 15, 2026 minutes record the 6-0 vote to approve the 31aa Revised Opt-In Resolution. November 17, 2025 minutes record the earlier vote not to take the funding, and December 15, 2025 minutes give the roughly $104,000 estimate.
