District news
2026-27 budget plans to spend $220,000 more than it takes in
What happened
The 2026-27 budget plans $10.96 million in spending and $10.74 million in revenue, a $220,154 gap. That would drop the district's savings (fund balance) to about $2.58 million, down from $2.80 million. Earlier in the year, the board talked about a 'structural deficit' and allowed the interim superintendent to ask the teachers' union about reopening contracts.
Why it matters to families
Spending more than it brings in each year wears down the district's savings. Over time that can lead to cuts in staff or programs.
The evidence
The 2026/2027 General Appropriations Act adopted June 15, 2026 lists total revenue of $10,736,263, expenses of $10,956,417, revenues less expenses of ($220,154), and a projected fund balance of $2,584,156 on June 30, 2027.
