What happened

The board adopted Policy 441, a new districtwide policy guiding artificial-intelligence use, without modifications. Staff said more detailed administrative rules will follow, including guidance shaped by the district’s AI focus group.

Why it matters to families

The policy creates formal direction on AI use in schools, but the board discussion indicates that practical procedures are still being developed. Staff specifically discussed equitable access and avoiding schoolwork that requires students to have AI tools or internet access at home.

The evidence

In the October 8 transcript, trustees discussed Policy 441’s equity-and-access section, ethical and transparent AI use, and the need for a later administrative regulation. The board then approved item A1 as stated with no modifications; the motion passed. (Document 105454; discussion and vote at approximately 00:55–01:05.)
