Board adopts its own student cell phone policy

Day-to-day

What happened

On August 25, 2026, the board voted 5-0 to adopt a cell phone policy written by the district. In July it had put off adopting the state's model policy so local leaders could write their own.

Why it matters to families

The policy sets when students may use phones at school. In July, board members questioned rules that are hard to enforce, and the new high school principal favored allowing phones only at lunch.

The evidence

The July 29 minutes record the vote to postpone the state policy and the board's discussion. The August 25 minutes record the 5-0 adoption, and the September 15 agenda lists ratifying an updated policy.
