Phone policy report: 893 incidents, most at the high school

Day-to-day

What happened

Under Policy 5695, which bans phones and other internet devices all school day, the district logged 893 incidents involving 459 students in 2025-26. 811 incidents were in grades 10-12. About 80% ended with a reminder or redirection and none led to an out-of-school suspension for the policy alone. Black students were 13.3% of students but 26.6% of students with an incident; the district says that alone does not explain why.
