District promises guards, counselors, weapons detection and phone pouches at the high school

Day-to-day

What happened

After a Sept. 29 Board meeting and a Sept. 30 forum, the district promised six more contracted security guards through June 2027, a new social worker and drug counselor, weapons-detection equipment, and phone pouches to enforce the state ban on phones all day. It is also talking with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office about a school resource officer. A metal-detector proposal was due to go to the Board on Oct. 20, 2026. The district's tracker lists 22 steps: 8 done and 14 on track as of the collected page.

Why it matters to families

These steps change daily life at the high school, from how students enter the building to whether they keep phones in class. Some steps still need Board approval.

The evidence

The district's Safety Tracker lists the commitments, owners and due dates, and includes the Board president's Oct. 1 message restating them.
