Measure R bond oversight committee reports no bond spending yet this fiscal year

Financial

What happened

On April 23, the Board accepted the first annual report from the Measure R Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee. The district's internal auditor told the Board that because there have been no Measure R expenditures during the current fiscal year, a required bond performance audit will not happen until next fiscal year.

Why it matters to families

Measure R is the bond voters approved to fund both the Schools of Tomorrow consolidation and the district's workforce-housing search; a year with no bond spending, and open seats on the oversight committee itself, affects how closely that spending gets independently checked.

The evidence

The manually sourced Simbli minutes record the Internal Auditor's statement that zero Measure R expenditures occurred this fiscal year, the resulting audit delay, and disclosure that the oversight committee has open membership seats district staff and legal counsel are still working to fill.
