School drops 2.7 GPA minimum for admission

Day-to-day

What happened

On September 11, 2026 the board voted to stop using the advertised 2.7 minimum GPA for admission. The admissions committee will weigh each application, as the state's other governor's schools do, and may require an entrance exam for some students, such as those from nontraditional schooling.

Why it matters to families

This changes how students get into the school. Staff said the last incoming class averaged a 3.3 GPA, so the cutoff was seen as too low. Without a public cutoff, families will have less information about what grades are needed.

The evidence

September 11, 2026 recording: the admissions director explains the two requests, and a trustee moves 'to remove the minimum GPA for an entrance for a student' and to allow an entrance exam 'at the discretion of the admission committee'; the motion is seconded and carried on a voice vote.
