District news
Howe Elementary playfield studied for a possible new building or parking lot
What happened
At the October 7 meeting two fifth graders, with a petition, and Howe parents asked the board to keep the school's field. Drilling rigs had been on the field, and speakers said the district is studying it for a new building or parking lot.
Why it matters to families
The field is the main play space for the school and neighbors. If a building or parking lot is chosen, kids lose that space, but no decision has been made and the board did not respond at the meeting.
The evidence
Speakers said the Deputy Superintendent told them the capital project is 'early in the process.' In December 2025 the district said design work was starting at Howe under its capital plan. The recording shows only public comment; the district's own plan for the site was not shown in the collected documents.
