$92 million set aside for a new middle school moves to a Rocky Vista High School addition

What happened

At the Aug. 26 meeting the bond oversight committee reported that in June it recommended, and the superintendent approved, moving $92 million that had been set aside for a planned Middle School 7, plus $5 million from remaining project contingencies, to pay for the Rocky Vista High School phase 2 classroom wing. The wing costs $37 million and would bring the school to its planned capacity. About $60 million remains for a PK-8 school.

Why it matters to families

It changes which new school buildings the 2021 bond pays for and when. Families waiting on a new middle school will see a different plan.

The evidence

The committee report is in the Aug. 26 recording captions (auto-generated, so wording may be imperfect). The agenda lists the bond oversight report but not the dollar amounts. The captions also say the final May bond issuance used all of the voters' 2021 authorization.
