What happened

On April 28, 2026 the board approved a new homeschool/correspondence program and its handbook. On June 2 it named teacher Amanda Mixon as coordinator. The district still needed state approval for the program.

Why it matters to families

Families who learn at home can now enroll through Skagway School and get a certified teacher's help and district support. Each enrolled student also counts toward the district's enrollment for state funding.

The evidence

The April 28, 2026 minutes record unanimous approval of item 10.5, the Homeschool/Correspondence Program Handbook. The superintendent said it would be the district's first program of this kind and would need a state application and a certified teacher as director.
