Memorial Sixth Grade Center opens; Silas Wood becomes pre-K

Facilities

What happened

Two re-purposed buildings opened for the 2026-27 school year: the Memorial Sixth Grade Center and the Silas Wood Pre-K Center. The Memorial building was finished mostly by district staff, with courtyards and spaces named for local figures.

Why it matters to families

Sixth graders now attend a separate building, and pre-K moved into Silas Wood. This changes drop-off, bus, and school-time planning for many families; a transportation committee is reviewing start times.

The evidence

On Sept. 16, 2026 board members, the superintendent and the student board member reported both ribbon cuttings and a smooth first two weeks. The Aug. 5 and Aug. 19 recordings give the ribbon-cutting dates (Aug. 31 and Sept. 2).
