Who controls Swampscott's school plan?

A five-member School Committee governs schools within a Town Meeting appropriation

Five elected School Committee members set district policy, oversee the superintendent and propose the school budget. The Town Administrator, Select Board and Finance Committee review the municipal plan, and representative Town Meeting authorizes the appropriation. The district also receives Massachusetts Chapter 70 and categorical aid, federal grants and other program revenue.

External capital funding can serve school access

The Town's rail-trail extension is programmed in the MassDOT TIP and will connect the consolidated elementary and middle schools.

The $35.24 million school appropriation excludes regular vocational tuition and does not represent every school-related cost borne elsewhere in the Town budget.
