New Code of Character, Conduct and Support adopted

Day-to-day

What happened

On Sept. 14, 2026 the board adopted Policy 5300, the districtwide Code of Character, Conduct and Support, by a 9-0 vote. It explains behavior rules for students and adults, bans bullying and discrimination, and uses restorative practices (students repair harm and learn from mistakes) along with consequences. It lists "inappropriate use of ChatGPT or other artificial intelligence" as academic misconduct. Parents, students and teachers each get a plain-language summary.

Why it matters to families

It sets the rules and consequences every student works under. Students learn the code in the first two weeks of school.

The evidence

Sept. 14, 2026 minutes record adoption after a first reading Aug. 24; the 58-page policy and the Aug. 24 hearing presentation describe the code, the plain-language versions and the AI misconduct line. The sources do not list what changed from the prior code.
