Board proposes the 4% property tax rate for 2026-27

Financial

What happened

On August 10, 2026, the board proposed a property tax rate of 46.9 cents per $100, a motor vehicle rate of 52.4 cents and a 3% utility tax. State figures show 46.9 cents is the rate that raises about 4% more property tax revenue than last year. The compensating rate, which would raise the same amount as last year, is 45.1 cents for real estate.

Why it matters to families

This sets local school taxes for 2026-27. Kentucky allows up to the 4% rate without a possible voter recall. The state report shows 46.9 cents would raise about $4.15 million from real estate, compared with $3.99 million at the compensating rate.

The evidence

The August 10, 2026 agenda records Order #3729 approving the proposed rates. The Kentucky Department of Education Report 1 (August 6, 2026) lists the compensating rate (45.1 cents real estate), the 4% rate (46.9 cents) and the subsection (1) rate (47.8 cents). Approved minutes for this meeting and for the vote to adopt the final rate had not been posted when collected.
