New phone lockup and 10-day fight suspensions

Day-to-day

What happened

Principals presented 2026-27 handbook changes on July 21, 2026. Middle school students cannot have phones out during the school day and phones are collected as they arrive; elementary students in grades 3-5 check phones in. High school phone rules start in January 2027. Any fight that disrupts the school day now brings an automatic 10-day suspension, up from 5 to 10 days.

Why it matters to families

These rules change what students can bring and use each day and make punishment for fights stricter and automatic.

The evidence

July 21, 2026 recording (auto-captions): 'the middle schoolers cannot have their cell phones out throughout the instructional day,' 'the high school policy goes in effect 2027,' and 'any physical altercation that causes disruption to the school day, it's going to be immediate 10day suspension.'
