New two-story Lake Butler Elementary School is on hold for a year
What happened
The state is paying for a new Lake Butler Elementary School through its special facility program. In October 2025 the board picked a two-story design, and the district drew $1.5 million to buy the land and pay for surveys. In May 2026 the board hired Pathway Project Consulting as project manager. In July 2026 the finance director said the state had placed a one-year hold on the project and more legislative action may be needed. Architects and the builder were set to update the board on October 13, 2026.
Why it matters to families
This is the district's largest building project. Its timing affects where elementary students will go to school.
