District gives Tele-Fonika cable plant a 10-year tax break

Financial

What happened

On Aug. 13, 2026, the board created a reinvestment zone and approved a JETI (state Chapter 403) agreement with Tele-Fonika Cable Americas. The company plans a cable plant on Kickapoo Road in Harris County. The deal limits only the plant's school operations taxes for 10 years (2030-2039); it still pays full debt (bond) taxes. The company said the plant could reach $1.2 billion and 700 jobs.

Why it matters to families

Big plants add property value that helps pay off school bonds, but the district gives up some operations tax money for 10 years.

The evidence

The Aug. 13 recording covers the public hearing, the zone vote and the agreement presentation. A posted notice described the $365.9 million first phase on a 117-acre site.
