District news
John Jay field and some building work will run past the first day of school
What happened
At the August 17 meeting trustees said the John Jay field house was torn down and the new field would not be done before school starts. Football and other fall sports will use temporary arrangements. Upstairs bathrooms at John Jay were delayed by hidden damage, and new seating for the large lecture rooms at John Jay and Roy C. Ketcham would arrive late.
Why it matters to families
Students, athletes and families may deal with construction noise, changed game locations and temporary seating or bathrooms this fall.
The evidence
The August 17, 2026 recording has the capital committee report and board comments that the field house was demolished and that the work was delayed by approvals and surprises found inside old walls. The July 9 capital committee notes also mention planning for football season during construction.
