Myers Corners Elementary traffic fix: county rejects roundabout, favors signal

Facilities

What happened

Dutchess County public works told the capital committee a roundabout ($2-2.5 million) is not recommended, a left-turn lane ($125,000-175,000) is unsafe because of a hill, and a traffic signal ($350,000-500,000) would work best. The district plans right-turn-only exit signs at drop-off and pick-up and will keep seeking grants. Parents will be told before the school year.

Why it matters to families

Backups on Myers Corners Road at drop-off and pick-up have worried staff for years and can affect the safety of children and buses.

The evidence

The August 6, 2026 capital committee notes list the county's views and cost estimates. The district cannot pay for a signal on a county road without further steps, so this remains under discussion.
