Wayland Public Schools — Day-to-day

Over the past school year, Wayland Public Schools has steadily revised its day-to-day policies, beginning with the Middle School's decision to replace its 'off and away' phone rule with a Yondr pouch requirement set to begin in October, after 250 device infractions the prior year. A few months later, the School Committee delayed a proposal to swap the National Honor Society for a WHS-specific honor society, citing timing, college admissions impact, and the need for more research and community input.

In spring 2026, the committee turned to financial and enrollment policies, approving a new tuition-based revolving fund for specialized programs and, in a separate close vote, a draft policy reserving spots for Wayland residents in low-enrollment special education programs before releasing both for public comment. In May, the committee unanimously declined participation in the state School Choice program for 2026-2027, keeping a reservation to reconsider if nearby districts opt in before June 1.

Most recently, in June 2026, the committee approved a revised technology policy that adds new artificial intelligence guidance and updated the JKAA policy to align with new DESE regulations on time-out and seclusion; both changes are slated for public comment and an August School Committee vote.
