Phone-free school day continues in the 2026-27 Code of Conduct

Day-to-day

What happened

After a public hearing on August 18, 2026, the board approved the 2026-27 Code of Conduct. It keeps the phone-free school day: smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and other internet devices may not be used during the school day. The district's own school devices used for learning are allowed.

Why it matters to families

Every student and family has to follow this rule every day. Students who break it can lose the device for a while and the school will call home. The Code of Conduct also adds a rule that unapproved AI use can count as cheating.

The evidence

The Code of Conduct (Section IX, Distraction-Free Learning) cites New York Education Law 2803 and district Policy and Regulation 7316 and lists confiscation and a call to parents as responses. The August 18, 2026 recording shows the hearing and the board vote.
