District news
Before- and after-school care moves to a YMCA partnership with fixed schedules
What happened
The district is partnering with the YMCA for licensed before- and after-school care at its five elementary schools. Families must register for part-time (1-3 fixed days a week) or full-time (4-5 days) status. Reduced tuition is available for families who qualify. By July 7, 73 children were enrolled in the morning and 63 in the afternoon.
Why it matters to families
Parents who used flexible drop-in care will have less flexibility. Care stays in the schools, and recess-period care is offered at the Southtowns YMCA.
The evidence
The June 9, 2026 superintendent's report describes the change, the pros and cons and the registration rules. The July 7 report gives enrollment and says the district receives no revenue from the program.
