District news

573 students were disciplined under the first year of the school-day phone ban

Day-to-day

What happened

The state-required report published August 17, 2026 says 573 of 5,992 students got at least one violation in 2025-26 and 1,423 violations were recorded. That included 695 verbal warnings, 394 detentions and 75 phones taken. Most were in middle and high school. The district found no statistically significant bias, but Black students were 4% of enrollment and 11% of those disciplined.

Why it matters to families

All students must keep phones off and stored all day, including lunch. Families can see how often the rule was enforced and who was affected.

The evidence

The scanned report's tables list the counts and the demographic comparison. It was read by OCR. The report does not explain the causes of the differences.
