Board adopts $822.5 million budget that uses $18 million of savings

Financial

What happened

The 2026-27 budget is $822,451,205, up 1.45% from last year. It balances with $26 million in state 'bullet aid' and $18 million taken from the district's savings.

Why it matters to families

The Superintendent has called bullet aid one-time money and said savings are nearly used up. That makes next year's budget harder.

The evidence

The adopted budget lists revenue of $298.4 million from the city, $457.0 million state aid, $26.0 million bullet aid and $18.0 million appropriated fund balance. The June 18, 2026 newsletter says the board adopted the final budget at the June 17 meeting. January 2026 testimony says reserves are 'nearly depleted', and the 2025 testimony calls the earlier $12 million of bullet aid 'one-time' and 'not reoccurring'.
