District proposes spending $7.3 million on 12,310 iPads and laptops

Financial

What happened

A proposed change to the district's Smart Schools bond plan would buy 10,600 iPads and 1,710 MacBook Neo laptops for $7,275,400. The district held a public hearing on July 15.

Why it matters to families

This uses state bond money, not local taxes, and the district says every student should have a device in 2026-27. Devices wear out, so the plan notes future replacement costs.

The evidence

The plan amendment lists $572.95 per iPad and $594 per laptop and a blended $591 each with warranty, drawn from a $23,965,851 state allocation. The board calendar lists a July 15, 2026 hearing. The documents do not show final approval.
