Who runs Aguilar schools and how is it funded?
Aguilar Reorganized School District No. 6 (RE-6) is in Las Animas County and has about 110 students in one school building. A five-member elected board meets on the third Monday of most months. Most operating money comes from the state school finance formula. The building project is paid mainly through a state BEST grant plus a voter-approved matching bond.
Enrollment
Enrollment was about 108 students in February 2026 and up four to five students by September.
BEST grant
The grant closed on Dec. 9, 2025 after another district's election failed and Aguilar became the funded district.
Budget
The 2026-27 budget was approved 5-0 on June 29, 2026 as balanced with a projected surplus.
Leadership
Dr. Reece Blincoe replaced Justin Cowan as superintendent in summer 2026.
The documents describe a stable budget but do not show the dollar size of the budget or the full project cost.
