New policy sets out how schools respond to immigration enforcement

What happened
On March 5, 2026 the board adopted new Board Policy 9205 (1445), Response to Immigration Enforcement, and repealed the 2018 policy it replaces. The new policy follows the model the California Attorney General issued in December 2025 and covers the wider public rather than only students. Assembly Bill 495, signed on October 12, 2025, required districts to update by March 2026, so the board waived the usual second reading.
Why it matters to families
The policy tells families what school staff will do if immigration officers come to a campus and who may be given information about a student, which is the practical answer parents need before it happens.
The evidence
Item 12.12 of the March 5, 2026 approved minutes records the first and final reading, the repeal of Board Policy 8145.13, the AB 495 deadline and the Attorney General's model policy.
