District news
District plans vape and safety sensors in restrooms and locker rooms
What happened
The August 6, 2026 agenda asks the board to adopt Resolution 2026/27-E-01 authorising a request for proposals for a vape and safety sensor system for restrooms, locker rooms and other spaces, plus the software to manage it and staff training. Cypress, Loara and Magnolia high schools already used such systems at varying levels during 2025-26.
Why it matters to families
Sensors in restrooms and locker rooms change how students are monitored during the school day, so families will want to know where they go and what they record.
The evidence
Item 12.3 of the August 6, 2026 agenda describes the proposed request for proposals, the spaces to be covered and the existing use at Cypress, Loara and Magnolia high schools. This is a proposal on the agenda; the district has not published minutes recording the board's vote.
