How is Arickaree R-2 paid for?
Arickaree School District R-2 serves a very small number of students in Anton, Washington County, Colorado, on a four-day school week. Colorado pays districts per student through a state formula, and a local property tax pays part of it. The board set the 2025 mill levy at 27.036 mills in December 2025. Five elected board members, currently three from director districts and two at large, adopt the budget and hire the superintendent. Gena Ramey was approved as superintendent for 2026-27, replacing Mike Page.
General fund
The final 2025-26 general fund was $2,750,000. The preliminary 2026-27 general fund approved in June 2026 was $2,450,000.
Staff pay
In May 2026 the board approved a new certified salary schedule with a 1 percent raise for all staff.
Governance change
The board placed a change to five at-large seats on the November 2026 ballot.
Facilities
The school roof has leaked for years; the board has discussed repairs, apartment repairs and a new bus barn power supply.
Meeting records are brief, and public comment in spring 2026 criticized the previous superintendent; the board president said the board was doing its best. These minutes do not show wrongdoing.
