What happened

At the September 10 meeting, the business chief said enrollment decline was exceeding the adopted budget forecast and further adjustments would be needed over the next three years despite savings.

Why it matters to families

Families and employees should follow the next budget updates for specific service and staffing proposals; these projections are not a finding of current insolvency.

The evidence

The August 28 county review projects unrestricted deficits of $10.12 million, $21.71 million and $23.23 million for 2026–29 and a $23.6 million available unrestricted balance in 2028–29. It finds positive cash and reserve compliance, while warning that the balance cannot sustain ongoing deficits indefinitely. September’s enrollment update is later than that review. No final new cut list was established.
