Split board adopts cuts while retaining dual-language immersion

What happened
On February 12, trustees adopted a hybrid stabilization package 4–3. The final choice retained dual-language immersion and two lifeguards while reducing the base Latino Commission allocation.
Why it matters to families
The final package differs from the initial options, and restricted grants cannot automatically replace unrestricted funds.
The evidence
Tortez, Garcia, Arredondo and Gonzalez voted yes; Acuña, Callimanis and Vargas voted no. Separate April 30 contracts preserve $2.28 million in school-year Latino Commission services plus $1.1773 million in nonstudent-day services. A separate Desert Healthcare grant MOU adds services at no district cost. This was not elimination of all mental-health services.
