What happened

On August 11, 2026 the board adopted the 2026-27 budget, 6-0. It set a total tax rate of $1.03699 per $100 of value: 74.82 cents for operations and 28.879 cents for debt payments. The board's motion said the rate "will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year's tax rate."

Why it matters to families

The debt-service rate rose to pay for the new bonds. Staff said the fund balance (about $53 million) is projected to fall to $43.9 million, and annual debt payments rise from about $3 million to over $12 million.

The evidence

The August 11, 2026 minutes record the motion adopting "the 2026 tax rate of 0.74820 for the maintenance & operations fund and the tax rate of 0.28879 for the interest & sinking fund for a total tax rate of 1.03699", passed 6/0. In the recording, staff say "we're looking our fund balance to go down to 43 million. 43.9 million."
