Board moves ahead with up to $17.5 million in bonds for energy projects

What happened
On August 3, 2026 the board voted 5-0 to move ahead with borrowing up to $17.5 million for energy-saving building projects, such as solar panels at all three campuses, set to start in January 2027. Its advisor said the tax levy is not expected to go up because older debt is being paid off. In September, staff suggested borrowing about $13.5 million now and keeping the rest for later.
Why it matters to families
This is a large, long-term debt for a district with about 2,100 students, and it pays for building work at every campus.
The evidence
In the August 3, 2026 recording, the advisor says "The bond amount is is $17,500,000 and that is a maximum that is not to exceed", and the project and preliminary determination resolutions pass 5-0. The July 13 hearing gave the estimated levy increase as zero. The September 28 work session recommended borrowing about $13.5 million now.
