What happened

Staff told the board that about 95 fully virtual students would have to return to in-person school in 2026-27. Virtual learning would stay only for students with severe medical needs or serious charges. The board also applied to make Connections Learning Academy its own alternative school for grades 6-12, with an evening 'Twilight Academy' for credit recovery.

Why it matters to families

Families who chose virtual school must plan for in-person classes. The standalone alternative school changes where some students who are removed from their regular school are taught.

The evidence

At about 29-30 minutes into the Feb. 27, 2026 special meeting recording, staff describe requiring virtual students to return in person. The application for Connections Learning Academy is approved at about 45-47 minutes. The source is the official meeting recording; its auto-captions can garble numbers, so check the recording.
