What happened

The board made Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026 (Election Day) a teacher workday with no students at the six schools used as voting sites: D.S. Johnson Elementary, G.W. Bulluck Elementary, J.W. Parker Middle, Martin Millennium Academy, the Phillips Middle building and Edgecombe Academy of Health Sciences. Other schools are open.

Why it matters to families

Families at these schools need child care that day. The Phillips Middle building now houses North Edgecombe High students.
