What happened

District staff reported that 11 of 17 rated schools were low performing in 2025-26. That is more than half, so Edgecombe County Public Schools stays a low-performing district. Staff said 13 schools are 'continually low performing.'

Why it matters to families

The label brings state oversight and improvement-plan requirements. Some numbers did improve: in September staff reported the graduation rate rose to 84.1%. North Edgecombe High's rate was 71.1%.

The evidence

At about 55-57 minutes into the Oct. 12, 2026 recording, the accountability director says 11 of 17 schools were deemed low performing, putting the district over the 50% threshold. North Edgecombe's 71.1% graduation rate comes at about 1 hour 9 minutes. The source is the official meeting recording; its auto-captions can garble numbers, so check the recording.
